A Dorset based pig farmer has been analysing the results of using Ekogea’s BioComplex Plus feed ingredient in the diets for their growers and finishers resulting in:
In a series of three successive batches, the first ‘control’ batch had no BioComplex Plus added, the second had BioComplex Plus added in granulate form to the grower diet, and the third batch had BioComplex Plus added to both grower and finisher diet. The addition was 1kg of BioComplex Plus per tonne in the grower diet and 0.5kg per tonne in the finisher diet.
Standard measurements of mortality, days to sale and FCR (grower, finisher, and combined) were recorded:
The investment in BioComplex Plus produced a return on investment of 3 times the cost of the feed ingredient. This doesn’t include the other benefits including shorter batch times, reduced medication usage and vastly improved pig behaviour. The farmer is delighted with the results:
“BioComplex has had a more marked effect compared to anything else we’ve used in the last 5 years. The improvement in pig behaviour alone was hugely noticeable, with incidences of tail and flank biting more than halved.”
The farmer is continuing to use BioComplex Plus for all successive batches.
