Slurry from BioComplex PLUS Fed Pigs Provides More Effective Bio-Fertiliser

An East Anglian pig and cereal farmer has been using BioComplex PLUS as a feed ingredient in the diets of all of his growers and finishers for 12 months. He has used the subsequent slurry produced as a bio-fertiliser for his wheat fields.

The Theory

When pigs are fed with BioComplex PLUS as part of their feed rations, the slurry is significantly richer in plant-available nitrogen due to the conversion of ammonia into crystalline ammonium.

The Application

The farmer has been following his usual application protocols, using his slurry as a bio-fertiliser on his wheat fields from the beginning of the season. He applied the slurry at the same rate per hectare as with previous years.

The Observations

His neighbour’s crop is the same variety of wheat, planted in an adjoining field and sown on the same day. The difference being that his neighbour has used liquid urea as a nitrogen source instead of slurry, as is common practice.

The following videos were taken earlier in June, on the same day, as a direct comparison of growth and potential yield between the two sites (where generally there is no obvious differential):

As can be clearly seen, the site treated with slurry from pigs fed with BioComplex PLUS shown a much thicker growth, stronger and larger flag leaves, and shows potential for a much healthier yield.

The farmer will continue to monitor progress and report yield and bushel weights at harvest.
