Ekogea Animal Health Team Attend Royal Welsh Show

Animal Health

Representatives from Ekogea’s Animal Health team were in attendance at the prestigious Royal Welsh Show earlier this week in Powys. Head of Animal Health, Mike Clarke, and Ekogea Director, Philip Hughes met with farmers, representatives of Welsh farming industry bodies and UK Agriculture Ministry officials to discuss the application of our innovative solutions for the Circular Farm Economy and their uses to improve the environmental impact and sustainability of farms across Wales.

Interest in Farm Slurry Management System

Many discussions centred around Ekogea’s innovative Farm Slurry Management System. The process converts raw pig and dairy slurry into a valuable asset to be used as a commercially viable AD feedstock or high plant available organic bio-fertiliser. This is done by dewatering the raw slurry, whilst also treating the removed grey water to NRW/EA standards for re-use on the farm or release to water courses under permit.

Ekogea Concentrators can reduce slurry volumes by 80%, whilst also producing water clean enough to discharge to water courses made for some very interesting conversations and future discussions with the attending farmers and legislative bodies.

Ammonia Reduction in Livestock

Also of keen interest was the recent independent study that showed Ekogea’s BioComplex PLUS feed ingredient to be responsible for a greater than 50% reduction in the ammonia output of monitored batches of pigs. The ability for a sustainably produced, organic product to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from livestock farming, whilst also improving all major KPIs and profit margins on farms, is something that has led to further trials, case studies and research to be planned for the coming months.
